Labor and Public Policy

Since its founding in 1994, the HIRE Center has researched and evaluated policy and programs affecting individuals who lack the infrastructure to increase their human capital and obtain and retain employment in changing economic environments. The HIRE Center’s research in the area of Labor and Public Policy has facilitated discussion and improved policies and programs in areas such as understanding the operation of specific labor markets, transiting youth from school to work, moving individuals from welfare to work, analyzing the costs and benefits of a living wage, determining employment and wages of low-skilled workers, improving assess to health care, and providing labor market information.

The HIRE Center’s commitment in Labor and Public Policy emphasizes three distinct areas:

  • Program Analysis, which involves collecting and analyzing data for program evaluation.
  • Policy Analysis, which involves assessing the impact of a particular policy or program through either analysis of primary or secondary data collection.
  • Data Collection and Analysis, which involves designing survey instruments that can provide accurate information to analysts to help design and build stronger employment and training programs and labor market policies.
